The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.
Work for Hire
In a Nutshell
Many of these drawings were accompanied by lengthly op-ed pieces or regular columns in the Daily Tar Heel. Bill rarely, if ever, met or even talked with their authors. But he was instructed by his editor to "spice up the content" with a like-minded cartoon. Bill saw his job as encapsulating the point of the column into one at-a-glimpse visual (which, in a way, made the column itself redundant). Still, Bill learned a lot along the way, such as the difficutly of staying neutral on the editorial page, and the even greater difficulty of illustrating a column whose point you were in direct disagreement with. A job's a job.
